Signed in Greek and dated 19 V 91 lower right 'Vangelis Pavlidis 19 V
91'. Signature and documentation by the artist on B' side. Accompanied
by a photocopy of the publication of the sketch at Greek newspaper 'TO
VIMA'.

[1991 was an important year with the events in Albania and the
massive inflow of immigrants that followed. We also had the Gulf war,
the overthrowing of Gorbachev and Perestroika, the trial of Greek banker
Koskotas, rearrangements at the Greek Communist Party. All of the above
happened during the administration of K. Mitsotakis. As it is
understood, these sketches are particularly important due to the
significant events of that period].
Biography:
Vangelis Pavlidis was born and grew up in Rhodes. He has been active
as a political cartoonist since 1971 and has published his cartoons in
some of the biggest newspapers in Greece. His cartoons have also
appeared in many papers abroad.
He has exhibited solo in Oslo, 1978, Athens, 1987, the Museum of the
Order of the Knights St. John, London 1999, Rosas, Spain 2000, in
Rhodes and many Greek cities.
He has participated as a guest in the 8th Gabrovo Biennial, 1987, in
the 1992 Salon de Caricature in St. Esteve, France, in Ruthdrum,
Ireland 1994, the 'East meets West' exhibition in Gabrovo 2008 and in
2010 in the Amadora International Comic and Cartoon Exhibition, in
Portugal. He has participated in numerous exhinbitions for cartoons and
book illustrations the world over . In 1976 in a survey by the House
of Humour and Satire of Gabrovo, Bulgaria, Vangelis was included among
the '100 best contemporary cartoonists'.
Works of his can be found in the Museum of Humour and Satire,
Gabrovo, the Gallery SAMLUNG KARIKATUREN, in Basel, the WILHELM BUSCH
MUSEUM, Hannover, and in private collections.
In 1994 he was on the Honorary List for Illustration of the
International Board of Books for the Youth (IBBY), receiving his prize
in Seville, Spain
In 2002, he was honored by the International Center for the
Preservation of Architectural Heritage (CICOP) for his book 'Rhodes
1309-1522: a Story'.
In 2010, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 100 years of
the Portugese Republic, he was honored at the Amadora International
Comic and Cartoon Exhibition as a representative 'of the oldest
Democracy in the World'.
He is a founding member of the Association of Greek Cartoonists,
member of The Union of Journalists of Greece, the Chamber of Visual Arts
of Greece, of The Association of Children's Books Illustrators, and the
Federation of Cartoon Organizations (FECO).
